A web directory or link directory is a directory of links which are listed by category and then subcategory, making them easy to find by those searching for any given business. A directory typically has a very high page rank, and when you put a link to your website from that directory, it increases both your page rank and your traffic flow.

In the world of link building, there are a number of ways to go about business. One of them is a "one-way link", which is the most important because it’s considered by the search engines as a spontaneous link, which is the favoured kind. A one-way link says to a search engine that your website is so valuable, people want it listed there, and it gets ranked accordingly.

Another type is the "two-way link" which is considered to be a reciprocal link by the search engines and ultimately less favourable.
